Tesla Coming To India Next Year

The electric car maker is ready to enter the markets of India, says Elon Musk the CEO of Tesla on Friday. The tweet garnered a wholesome of attention online. Also, Tesla is trending news, as people of India can’t keep calm and are very excited about hearing the news. Tesla, the United States electric vehicle and clean energy company with Elon Musk, its chief executive. Elon Musk made such an announcement in the past years too, but the company had still not made its way to India, because of the country’s dependency on gasoline-powered cars. Indian has the fifth largest car market and the Indian government is eagerly pushing for an increase in the electric vehicle sales and it focuses on the cutting emissions. Also, the government of India in September 2017 roughly said that about 250 million of the country’s vehicle must be electric by the end of the coming decade i.e. 2030. But due to fierce criticism, it dropped down the count to 30% of the total vehicle.

Earlier Promises Remained Unfulfilled

This is not the first time Elon Musk said the same. He already said this a number of times in the past. Last year too, the chief of Tesla had commented about bringing the electric cars to India, in reply to a post that said “What about India sir”. But in August last year, Elon Musk took a turn and said, that bringing Tesla to India would be quite difficult as import duties are high which would make Tesla unaffordable. A tweet of Elon Musk said, ”For other countries, we pay in part for the local factory by selling cars there ahead of time. Also, gives a sense of demand. Current rules in India prevent that, but recent changes in the sales give hope for the near future changes”. Basically, the challenging government regulations of India and the foreign direct investment(FDI) norms act as the hurdles for Tesla to introduce its electric car in India.

In 2015, Musk gave a tour of the company’s electric car plant when the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi visited Tesla Headquarters at Palo Alto in California. The only Asian market where Tesla has a presence is in China. If the introduction of the electric cars makes its way in India and this tweet of the CEO of Tesla finally comes out to be true, then India would be the second Asian market to have Tesla’s presence.
